José Antonio is one of the winemakers who is leading a quality revolution in the Rias Baixas. Tricó is out to prove that Albarino in the Rias Baixas is capable of achieving the same mineral-inflected greatness as Austrian Riesling or Loire Chenin Blanc.
Based in the southernmost sub zone in Condado do Tea on the eastern side of the Mino River. The terroir allows plenty of sunlight and there is a pronounced thermal contrast between day and night which produces high-quality Albarino.
Albariño is a native grape variety of Galicia most likely coming from wild vines cultivated by people from the region. The Miño River is considered to be the father of the Albariño grape which has been growing in its banks ever since the Middle Ages.
Trico’s Albarino grapes come from 10 hectares of estate only produced fruit with granitic soil. Their focus is in the vineyards based on the simplicity and keeping things as natural as possible. “Enology on the field” is José Antonio’s term to pay the most attention and the most precise care to allow them to obtain grapes so wine producing can be the least interventionist.
