This Volnay 1er Cru is a beautiful wine, showing stunning purity in its sappy, black fruity bouquet of black cherries and sweet dark berries, raw cocoa, pigeon, woodsmoke, dark soil tones, just a hint of fresh thyme, brown spices, violets and a touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and very refined, with a sappy core of fruit, lovely soil inflection and grip, fine-grained, moderate tannins and impeccable balance on the long, complex and vibrant finish. This is simply gorgeous and will drink splendidly from a fairly youthful age.
